🔊Church: There is a real war going on with a real enemy, but soon, VICTORY will be declared! Get ready for that final, war-ending, victory-proclaiming blast— at THE LAST TRUMPET! Death will be conquered, the war will be over, the enemy will be crushed, and we, THE CHURCH, will be MARCHING HOME!
📖"...in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed." I Cor 15:52
🎺When Paul said "the last trumpet," he wasn’t just making a general statement—he was describing a battle coming to an end! The fight is over, death is defeated, and the Church will receive their reward!
🎖He didn’t just pull this phrase out of thin air. Paul was using familiar military language that everyone in his time would have recognized—"the last trumpet" wasn’t "the mystery" he was referring to in 1 Corinthians 15.
🪖Paul's audience knew trumpets as war signals. Both Romans and Jews used trumpets in war, and a final trumpet blast meant victory or marching orders.
👉🏼Paul, having both Roman and Jewish backgrounds, knew people would recognize this immediately. That’s why he doesn’t reference a Bible verse, provide background, or give a detailed explanation—he simply says, "at the last trumpet."
🎺In Roman warfare, the army used three trumpet blasts:
1⃣ First trumpet – Break camp and prepare.
2⃣ Second trumpet – Line up for departure.
3⃣ Final trumpet/ Last trump – MARCH OUT!
👉🏼The last trumpet was the moment soldiers left their temporary camp to go home. Paul applies this same imagery to us—we will leave behind our temporary bodies and enter eternal glory.
📖"For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality." I Cor 15:53
👉🏼If we pay close attention, Paul is describing victory over our enemies and taunting death and Hades like defeated foes when he proclaims:
📖"Death is swallowed up in victory.
O Death, where is your sting?
O Hades, where is your victory?" (1 Corinthians 15:55)
👉🏼Clearly, he sees a battle taking place, and the last trumpet is the sound of THE final VICTORY!
📜Throughout his letters, Paul repeatedly reminds us that the Christian walk is a battlefield where we must fight, wrestle, and endure—but ultimately, we have the victory through Christ!
📖"For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places." Ephesians 6:12
📖"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness." 2 Timothy 4:7-8
📖"Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it." Colossians 2:15
🎺So it makes total sense that the last trumpet is the war-ending, victory-announcing blast! The last trumpet is not just a sound—it's a war cry of victory.
✅The war is over!
✅Death is conquered!
✅The victors (Church) are rewarded!
✅The King (Jesus) is crowned in full authority!
💣We are on the battlefield—we are in a real war with a real enemy, and we are weary, wounded, wrestling day and night! This is as real as it gets! We are tired and ready to go home! BUT, like Paul says: OUR LABOR IS NOT IN VAIN!
📖"Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord." 1 Cor 15:58
🔊Church: Keep fighting, keep preaching, keep doing God's work, KEEP LOOKING UP, and get ready for that final, war-ending, victory-proclaiming blast!
THE LAST TRUMPET! GET READY! SOON, WE WILL BE MARCHING HOME!
